I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart

It was close to 20 years ago when a band I was playing with was working a job at the Duke of York Hotel in Toronto (now there’s some “lost” country!). My old pal, Drummer Tim showed up in character. Little did he know this photo would resurface someday.

The band in question was far from great; they were at best, fine. At set break, Tim approached me with a nefarious smile and disappointed look. Slapping me in the face, he said, “That’s from your Dad. If he saw you with a band like this, he’d do even worse”. About a month later my Dad did in fact see me with that very same band. I escaped further savage attacks but he walked out during the third song of the night utterly disgusted with the unit. Couldn’t stick out even one full set for his then 19 year old son in his first working band. Thanks, Prick.

These days I live far away from my friend, Drummer Tim but he remains a stern critic as well as a source of great support in my endeavor as a country music singer, including allowing me to use this hilarious photo of a guy who’d never, ever normally dress the part like this. So thanks, Tim. To save some embarrassment, I had Boots Graham out in Alberta sketch Tim for the Cover art.

Joining me on this track are Ryan Menard (Fender Bass), Joanna Miller (drums. whistle solo), Grant Siemens (guitar) and, Mike Weber (pedal steel). Recorded live off the floor in a basement on Clifton. St. in Winnipeg. Engineered by Jamie Sitar, Mixed by Steve Christensen, and Mastered by Chris Longwood. I Wanna Be A Cowboy’s Sweetheart by Sean Burns & Lost Country is available as a Single, December 22. Find it wherever you stream, steal or support music.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for listening.

See you downtown.
